What are Kirkwood Career Academies?
Kirkwood Career Academies are pre-determined sets of classes within a certain career field that students can sign up for that will earn them college credit and in-depth knowledge and experience within a career path. For example, students can take the "Criminal Justice & Human Services" Kirkwood Career Academy, where they will take classes such as "Introduction to Criminal Justice", "Police and Society", and "Introduction to Human Services". Students are required to talk with their school counselor (Ms. Koehler) or other staff before signing up for a Kirkwood Career Academy and availability is affected by Lone Tree class schedule.
What are Kirkwood Job Shadows?
Students in grades 10-12 can take part in dozens of different job shadow possibilities by exploring options offered by Kirkwood and applying through the website. There are both in-person and virtual opportunities available. Students may apply for one job shadow per portal opening (three per year). The earlier a student applies, the better chance they will have at receiving their top choice of job shadow. What are Kirkwood Internships?
Internships through Kirkwood Community College are for students who are looking for hands-on experience, to develop new skills, and for insight into different careers. Students in grades 11 or 12 are eligible. Talk to your school counselor (Ms. Koehler) to see if a Kirkwood Internship is right for you!
